Happy Halloween!

This is a little illo in the spirit of Halloween!

This young, newb wizard is trying to conjure up a sweet spell on Halloween eve. Unfortunately, his magic is going everywhere except to the frog, who looks unimpressed.

I'm trying to paint in Photoshop more, so I decided to render this one in gray scale. I still need to get a hang of the blending, and I feel like it gets out of control sometimes. Painting in Corel is no problem for me, I actually prefer it, but it's beginning to take a toll on my 2007 Hp laptop! Corel is just too big of a program and it constantly crashes my computer. I'm in the market for a desktop, and a Cintiq...maybe I can ask Santa to help me out?

Any who, (as my sister always says lol)  I really like the retro feel the sepia gave. Also, I'm going to start adding more environments to my illustrations, interiors even more so.

Until next time!

Super excited!

I've been informed that I won a full scholarship to The Children's Book Academy!! I'm so grateful to be given this opportunity, and I will take full advantage of this amazing gift! It's all thanks to my amazing friend Angela Padron. She introduced me to CBA and I'm very glad she did!

I can't wait to started on The Craft and Business of Illustrating
Children's Picture Books courses. There is still time to sign up if anyone is interested. Click the link to find out more about The Children's Book Academy and their courses!

Comfort Zone

I believe I need to branch out more. I've never posted a sketch of a boy before! This is unacceptable!
So, here is Nel. He's a quick sketch after a long day of work, and of course he's on a skateboard because that's what boy's do, right? Haha.

In order to get out of my comfort zone (illustrating girls) I want to illustrate different characters of a different ethnicity. I think I'll start with a Mexican boy and girl. I wonder why I'm not more comfortable illustrating a Mexican girl, I am one after all.

I blame society.

Expressions

Wow, it has been a long time since I've posted anything. As everyone always says "life got in the way..." and it did. Between graduating, moving to a new state, possibly moving again in the near future, looking for jobs, and sending out my first batch of promotional packages (phew!) it has been very, very busy. I must admit, it has also been very emotionally draining to say the least.

Needless to say, I have felt all of these emotions weekly for the past three months, the first one being the first sketch on the top left. That emotion was felt after graduation, hehe.
Since all of these emotions have been presenting themselves lately, I decided to pay them tribute in this exercise. I chose Poppy to display these emotions, she's one of my most constant characters and I wanted to see how she displayed emotion.

I'm very happy seeing her come to live.
